Chelsea Manalo
Chelsea Anne Manalo, representing Bulacan, was crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2024 on May 22, 2024. This 25-year-old Filipino-American from Meycauayan City, Bulacan, is known for her advocacy in youth empowerment, particularly focusing on education for indigenous communities. She will represent the Philippines at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant in Mexico.
Chelsea's journey in pageantry began earlier, having participated in Miss World Philippines 2017, where she placed in the Top 15. Her participation in Miss Universe Philippines has been met with significant public support and enthusiasm (Philstar). During the competition, Chelsea emphasized the importance of self-belief and the influence she hopes to have on other women through her own experiences.
Her campaign has not been without controversy. Chelsea faced backlash over her tourism video promoting the New Manila International Airport development site in Bulacan. Critics highlighted environmental concerns, including the displacement of local communities and the destruction of mangrove forests, which are crucial for flood prevention.
Despite this, Chelsea remains a prominent figure in the pageantry world, celebrated for her dedication to her advocacy and her representation of Filipino culture and resilience.
